When entering Paducah's riverfront from Broadway, it's evident something "big" is happening right before your eyes.

Piece by piece, the new 340-foot long transient dock is coming together. Once all the pieces of the frame and the infrastructure for utilities are assembled, the dock will be floated downstream to its permanent location.

According to City Engineer and Paducah Public Works Director Rick Murphy, the new dock is scheduled to be ready to accommodate boats this spring. Ultimately the dock will provide fuel, power pedestals, water hookups and pump out services to boats traveling the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers.

The foot of Broadway is proving to be the perfect location to put all the parts together. Pieces of the dock were delivered to the riverfront in January.

The dock is part of Paducah's marina project that has been planned for over a decade. In 2012, ground was broken on the first phase of the "Riverfront Master Plan".

In 2015, the project got a boost when $910,000 in federal funds were approved.
