Officials in south-central Kentucky are asking the National Park Service to reconsider plans for Mammoth Cave Hotel.

The Glasgow Daily Times reports Barren County officials voted Tuesday night in favor of a resolution asking the park service to open a dialogue with area stakeholders over its plan to demolish rooms connected to the restaurant building that are 50 years old. The park service plans to renovate another 20 rooms that are separate from the restaurant.

The resolution also has been passed by Edmonson County officials and the cities of Brownsville and Horse Cave.

Mammoth Cave National Park Association President Lee Davis says the main concern is making sure there's enough revenue for a concessions contractor.

Park Superintendent Sarah Craighead says several considerations went into the plan and studies show the rooms aren't necessary.
