The race pits Democrat Andy Beshear against Republican Whitney Westerfield.
Republicans point to Beshear's lack of prosecutorial experience and question whether some of his law clients would create conflicts of interest for him if elected. Democrats are pouncing on one of Westerfield's personnel files as a young assistant prosecutor, including a reference to personal interests sometimes taking priority over work. That spurred attacks claiming Westerfield skipped court for pedicures.
Westerfield calls it a "puny attempt" to smear him.
Beshear, son of Gov. Steve Beshear, says Westerfield is relying on attacks from the Republican Attorneys General Association.
The attacks provide plenty of fodder for zingers at the Fancy Farm picnic Saturday.
