Kentucky's opioid epidemic is impacting the state's workforce.

Kentucky Chamber of Commerce President David Adkisson says the crisis has contributed to a low workforce participation rate.

"Whether it's pre-employment drug testing or on the job random drug testing, that is becoming more prevalent as employers attempt to deal with their own workforce situations," Adkisson said.

He says many people actively looking for work can't pass a drug test, and many people who do have jobs are leaving the workforce due to untreated or undertreated addictions.

Adkisson spoke to a legislative committee that's looking into the drug epidemic.
