By WestKyStar Staff
LOUISVILLE, KY - As one person observed after hearing about the watermelon, "that's a lot of Miracle Gro." The Kentucky-grown fruit has the distinction of being the heaviest watermelon in the entire country this year, and one of the five heaviest ever grown in the United States.
It weighs 273 pounds and has won first place at the Kentucky State Fair as the heaviest watermelon entered in the fair.
It was grown by Frank Mudd in Meade County, in north-central Kentucky.
The fair continues through August 26 in Louisville.
