Kentucky Republican statewide candidates were in Paducah Friday evening, meeting with members of the media and constituents during a dinner being held by the party.

The candidates are crisscrossing the state with just over a month to go before the primary election in Kentucky.

Gubernatorial candidate Matt Bevin spoke freely about his desire to see a change in Frankfort, touting his experience as a successful businessman in multiple businesses across the state. Bevin says he is on record as wanting to do away with Kynect, the health exchange website for Kentucky.

Bevin says Kentucky can't afford to offer a statewide exchange that duplicates what the federal government has already done on the nationwide exchange.  He says federal funding to operate the exchange is slated to dry up in a few years, leaving Kentucky to foot the bill for hundreds of millions of dollars that the state simply doesn't have.

Also at the dinner were GOP candidates running for state attorney general, auditor, agriculture commissioner, and treasurer.

All of the candidates we talked with echoed the same message... that Frankfort has forgotten western Kentucky, and that needs to stop.

The Kentucky primary will be held on May 19.
