FORT CAMPBELL, KY - After months of anticipation, military families and the veteran community in Tennessee and Kentucky finally have a new commissary at Fort Campbell providing low-cost groceries and household goods.

It's a welcome upgrade to the installation's old commissary originally built in 1974, and shoppers will find expanded produce and bakery sections, more checkout lines and even a sushi bar. The store celebrated its grand opening on Wednesday with prizes and a visit from the Screaming Eagles Parachute Demonstration Team.

Store manager Tony Matthias said an average family of four can save about $3,700 a year shopping at the commissary because prices are set at just 5 percent above cost. In addition to active duty military families, the commissary is also open to Guard and Reserve service members and military retirees.
