The Kentucky State Police and the state Office of Highway Safety are teaming up to promote safe driving behavior to protect people in emergency or public safety vehicles.

The ``Move Over'' campaign is designed to make the roads safe for people who work in law enforcement, emergency services and public safety.

Kentucky passed a law in 2003 requiring motorists to move to the adjacent lane when approaching an emergency or public safety vehicle. If it's impossible or unsafe to change lanes, motorists must slow down and use caution. State police say failure to comply can result in fines, jail time or both.

Advertising will be used to remind drivers of the law. Memorial signs will be placed in Kentucky welcome centers for Transportation Cabinet employees killed on the job.
