FRANKFORT, KY - As Kentucky continues to revamp public schools, the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence is putting the spotlight on teachers.
A panel of experts that includes some Kentucky teachers is scheduled to meet for the first time Friday in Frankfort. They will discuss hot-button issues such as recruitment, training and retention.
The panel is called the Prichard Committee's Team on Teacher Effectiveness. In addition to teachers, it includes legislators, business people, advocates and other education professionals.
The panel will examine teacher issues in an effort to come up with recommendations for the 2014 legislative session.
The panel is led by Franklin Jelsma, a Louisville attorney, and Becky Sagan, a former teacher and school board chairwoman from Lexington. The Prichard Committee is a nonprofit advocacy group based in Lexington.
