Effective immediately, permits for the 2020 non-resident spring turkey season have been suspended. The decision was made by the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission and the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet. The decision comes after Governor Andy Beshear's executive order that limits unnecessary travel to the state.
The only non-residents that can participate are those that have already purchased a 2020 spring turkey permit and can comply with Beshear's executive order, which requires all non-residents who travel to Kentucky to immediately self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.
Officials will be contacting non-resident hunters who had already purchased permits to provide them with more information, including a reimbursement option.
The spring turkey season begins on April 18 and will continue through May 10. Kentucky residents can hunt as planned, however, those who will be hunting are advised to follow these guidelines:
• Keep a 6-foot distance between you and others while outdoors;
• If you are taking a youth hunting, only take along youths from your household. Youth hunters require closer contact and immediate supervision;
• Frequently wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol;
• Follow CDC recommendations for disinfecting frequently touched surfaces, such as borrowed hunting equipment.
