UK Player From Paducah Charged with Assault

LEXINGTON - A University of Kentucky football player and Paducah native who played at McCracken County High School is facing assault charges in Lexington.

According to Fayette County Jail records, Lexington Police arrested 21-year-old Zy'Aire Hughes early Sunday morning on Woodland Avenue. He is charged with fourth-degree assault. There were no other details available about his arrest.

UK Director of Athletics Communications and Public Relations Susan Lax told the Lexington Herald Leader university officials are aware that Hughes has been arrested, and that they are still gathering information.

“We’re in the process of gathering information," Coach Mark Stoops said. "Proper behavior is an expectation of our program and we will address this as the facts are determined.”

Hughes, a sophomore wide receiver at UK, graduated from McCracken County High in 2016.
