The University of Kentucky says it will lay off up to 75 people as part of a reorganization plan to cut $6 million in spending.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports the $6 million in cuts comes after the state legislature approved $12.6 million in cuts next year. State government has reduced state spending at the University of Kentucky by $60 million since 2008.

Many state colleges and universities have announced cuts in recent weeks to deal with the state budget cuts proposed by Republican Gov. Matt Bevin. The Kentucky Community and Technical College System announced it would cut 506 positions while Morehead State announced it would eliminate 64 jobs.

University of Kentucky officials say the job losses will come from administrative and academic units, including student affairs, undergraduate education and enrollment management.
