UofL Keeps Accreditation but Gets Probation

The University of Louisville says it has maintained its accreditation but will be placed on one-year probation amid turmoil in its governance.
 
UofL said Tuesday it was informed of the action by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
 
The university says the probation stems from the organization's requirements dealing with board of trustee membership, standards related to selection and evaluation of the university president and external influence.
 
Governor Matt Bevin abolished and replaced the UofL board of trustees earlier this year. Attorney General Andy Beshear sued him, saying the order was illegal. A Franklin Circuit Court judge blocked the board's overhaul.
 
The case is in front of the state Court of Appeals, but Beshear has asked that the case go directly to the state Supreme Court.
