Average gasoline prices in Kentucky have fallen 18 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.40 a gallon Monday.

This compares with the national average that has fallen 12.5 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.53 a gallon, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

In Paducah, prices are as low as $2.34 a gallon.  In Mayfield prices are as low as $2.36 and $2.28 in Murray.  The news is even better in Paris, TN,  where gas is as low as $2.09.  In Metropolis, IL,  prices start at $2.62 a gallon.

Including the change in gas prices in Kentucky during the past week, prices yesterday were 83 cents per gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 48.4 cents per gallon lower than a month ago. The national average has decreased 37.4 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 71.2 cents per gallon lower than this day one year ago.

“More stations in the U.S. are charging under $2.50 per gallon than ever,” said Patrick DeHaan, Senior Petroleum Analyst with GasBuddy. “In fact, as of Sunday the number of states that saw at least one station at $1.99 or less had jumped to thirteen from just three a week ago, including Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, and Virginia.

"All 48 lower U.S. states now average under $3 a gallon. Motorists are saving $270 million dollars every day versus pump prices a year ago," DeHaan noted.

GasBuddy's daily survey includes 2,623 gas outlets in Kentucky.
