Nashville made the cut in the first round of Amazon's search for a second headquarters.

Amazon, based in Seattle, narrowed the list of cities under consideration to twenty, with the largest concentration in the Northeast.

The list released on Thursday also includes the cities of Atlanta, Austin, Texas, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, Philadelphia, Toronto, Washington, Pittsburgh, Raleigh, North Carolina; Newark, New Jersey; Columbus, Ohio. It also listed northern Virginia and Montgomery County in Maryland as potential sites.

Amazon plans to invest $5 billion in the new headquarters and could employ as many as 50,000 people in and around the city it chooses.

Middle Tennessee already has more than 2,000 Amazon employees at warehouses in Lebanon and Murfreesboro, and a sorting center in Nashville. Tennessee also touts low taxes and its proximity to a large segment of the U.S. population as strong drawing cards.
