Since midnight, satellite imagery and surface observations have indicated patches of fog developing along a cold front moving southeast through southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, and west Kentucky.
As this cold front continues to move southeast through daybreak, the cooler air riding over the relatively warm waters of the Ohio, Mississippi, Cumberland, and Tennessee Rivers will generate locally dense fog in the vicinity of these bodies of water.
For travelers, visibility due to the fog will drop sharply as you move on roadways and bridges near these bodies of water. This will be especially true if you travel north and east of Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, as well as the Land Between the Lakes.
Some locations on the Tennessee and Kentucky border may also see some patchy dense fog as well.
As the front finally moves through the Purchase Area of West Kentucky and extreme southern Illinois, visibilities due to the fog should improve with time.
However, some locations may see locally dense fog persist until 9 am or 10 am this morning.
