Tip Leads to Arrest of Two Men Saturday
By WestKyStar Staff
HICKMAN, KY - A caller's tip led to the arrest of two men in Fulton County Saturday evening.
Around 6:00 pm, the Fulton County Sheriff's Department got a call telling them that a man was defying his court-ordered curfew, and had swapped vehicles with another person to avoid being caught.
A deputy pulled over the vehicles on State Line Road, and detained 49-year-old Lendell Gaston of Hickman, and 56-year-old Thurman Denton of Union City. A K-9 officer indicated there were drugs in the vehicles, and a search produced a container near the vehicle driven by Denton, with crack cocaine inside. Denton denied any knowledge of the drugs, but a review of dashboard camera video showed him throwing the container out the passenger window. Both men smelled of alcohol and admitted they had been drinking.
Gaston was charged with contempt of court libel/slander resistance to order. Denton was charged with DUI, possession of an open alcoholic beverage in a vehicle, tampering with evidence, and possession of a controlled substance 1st degree - cocaine. Both men were taken to the Fulton County Detention Center and held on $2,500 cash bond.
The investigation is continuing and more charges are possible. The department thanks the public for the information that led to arrests, and reminds everyone that tips are completely confidential.
