Tatum, Vernon "Wart"

Vernon “Wart” Tatum, age 97, of Benton, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2020 at his residence.

Vernon was born in Marshall County on August 13, 1922 to the late William Thomas Tatum and Dora Clark Tatum. He was an avid wood whittler and faithful member of Walnut Street Baptist Church. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him as “Pa Tatum,” “Papa” and “Wart.”

He is survived by his daughter, Dora Stallons and husband, Richard of Benton; two sons, Billy Joe Driver and Louis Allen Driver both of Benton; three daughter-in-laws, Dorothy Driver, Gilda Driver and Vickie Tatum, all of Benton; nineteen grandchildren, Tammy York, Keith Stallons, Angie Burris, Lacey Tatum, Anita Sirls, Steve Driver, Sandy Driver, Debbie Driver, Randy Driver, Harold Thompson, Gary Thompson, Teresa Thompson, David Driver, Tony Driver, Jeff Driver, Ron Driver, Ricky Driver, Brenda Turner, Tim Driver and many great-grandchildren and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Eunice York Driver Tatum; one daughter, Virgie Driver Thompson; four sons, Floyd Thomas Tatum, Charles Driver, Leroy Driver, O’Dell Driver; his parents; two sisters, Emma Lee Tatum and Glennie Mae Clifton; two brothers, Henry Dennis Tatum and Mildred Noles Tatum; son-in-law, Hoy Lee Thompson; two grandsons, Joseph Thomas Tatum and Michael Floyd Tatum.

A funeral service for Vernon will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at Filbeck-Cann Funeral Home of Milner & Orr will Bro. Johnny Coffenberry officiating. Burial will follow at Hamlet Cemetery.

Visitation will be begin at 12:00 p.m. until service time of 2:00 p.m. at Filbeck-Cann Funeral Home of Milner & Orr.
