Deborah Lee Bakehouse Emmerson left us to be with the Lord, Sunday June 12, 2016. Deb was born May 28, 1960 to Leland and Charlotte Bakehouse.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at the St. Stephens Lutheran Church with Rev. Tom Emmerson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She graduated from Massac County High School 1978 and at that time was employed at Powell’s Market. She worked there 13 years in the meat department and as a bakery manager. In 1990, she worked in the design department at Trees N Trends, until she opened her own bakery “It’s A Piece of Cake” in Metropolis. After closing the bakery, she spent her years spoiling her grandchildren. She was presently employed at Brookport Elementary School.

She spent the last 30 years working and serving others. Deb was also a pastor’s wife who helped in several ministries; mostly working with the youth, Sunday school, and children’s church at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church.

Deb’s favorite place to be was on the beach with her family. A person never left her home hungry. She was known for her wonderful cupcakes, iced cookies, and brownies. Deb was a giver of herself and the time she had, and never expected anything in return. She will be greatly missed.

Deb is survived by her husband of 25 years, Tom Emmerson; three daughters, Sarah Sumnlers and partner Daryl Spencer, Christi Morris and husband Chris, and Ashley Powell and husband Dax; two sons, Andrew Emmerson and Ethan Emmerson; twelve grandchildren, Josh, Hannah, Alissa, Kaitlynn, Abbigail, Jimmy, Preston, Deacon, Lane, Rylan, Rayne, and Linzy; father, Leland Bakehouse; two sisters, Brenda Bakehouse, Nancy Jones and husband Wayne; brother, Michael Bakehouse and wife Amy; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Charlotte Bakehouse; daughter, Crystal Green; paternal grandparents, Howard and Jennie Potterbaum; maternal grandparents, Albert and Grace Bakehouse; one niece and one nephew; father-in-law, Robert Emmerson; mother and father-in-law, Maudetta and David Brown.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 12 noon at the St. Stephens Lutheran Church.

Memorials may be given to the St. Stephens Lutheran Church Memorial Fund 6874 Midway Rd. Metropolis, IL 62960.
