Mr. Edward W. Koenigsmark, 89, of Metropolis, died on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center in Paducah, KY.
Funeral services will be held at 10am on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Shalom Renner officiating. Burial will follow with military rites in Mounds City National Cemetery in Mounds City, IL.
Mr. Koenigsmark was a member of First United Methodist Church in Metropolis, the Metropolis Rotary Club in which he was a past President and District Governor, and Boy Scouts where he was a committee chairman of Troop 101. He served in the US Army where he was retired as a Lt. Colonel. Ed retired from the Soil Conservation Service which lovingly earned him the name “Tree Man” as part of his job took him to 3rd grade classrooms each year to give each child a tree and show them how to plant them.
Ed is survived by his daughter, Pam Koenigsmark of Metropolis; son, David Koenigsmark and wife Kyli of Paducah, KY; one brother, Ted Koenigsmark and wife Judy of Douglasville, GA; one grandson, Kyler Koenigsmark.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Hulda (Schmidt) Koenigsmark; his wife, Shirley (Allen) Koenigsmark.
Visitation will be held on Monday evening, March 12th, from 5-8pm at the First United Methodist Church in Metropolis.
