Howard L. Medley, age 78 of Metropolis, Illinois passed away at 5:45 pm on Friday, December 8, 2017 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Waldo Baptist Church. Rev. Trad York will officiate. Burial will follow in the Seven Mile Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites.

Howard was retired from the Metropolis Fire Department after serving the City from December 10, 1970 to September 11, 2000, retiring as an Engineer. He was a member of Waldo Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge #91, and Murphysboro York Rite. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan, loved country music and traveling. Howard served his country in the United States Army.

Howard is survived by his wife, Barbara Gower Medley of Metropolis; daughters-in-law, Mary E. Medley Parmer and Debra Parmer Woods both of Metropolis; grandchildren, Shawn Worthen and wife Amy of Paducah, KY, Jason Worthen of Golconda, IL, Justin Parmer and wife Lisa, Brandon Parmer and wife Tracy, Ricky Parmer II and wife Samantha all of Metropolis, Krystal Story and husband Jack of Princeton, KY, Angie Parmer of Ledbetter, KY, Cassey Wilkins and husband Travis of Metropolis; sister, Judy Barrera and husband Al of Buena Park, CA; nieces, Lisa Monkman and husband Mike, Tracie Troutman all of Metropolis, Alicia Warwick and husband Randy of Mission Viejo, CA; great nieces and great nephews, Nigel Warwick, Michael Monkman, Dawson Troutman, Makaela Monkman, Alexis Troutman; great great nephew, Carter Bell; a special cousin, Donna York of Paducah, KY and numerous other cousins.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Ima Roberts Medley; 1st wife, Mary H. Parmer Medley; daughter, Brenda Worthen; sons, Ricky A. Parmer and James W. Parmer; grandson, James R. Worthen; brothers-in-law, Robert “Bob” Mizell, Dickie R. Mizell, Berle Parr

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 from 9 am to 11 am at the Waldo Baptist Church. Masonic rites will be conducted at 11 am prior to the funeral service.

Pallbearers will be fellow Metropolis firefighters.
