Mr. Jerry Wayne Oliver, age 76, of Metropolis, IL, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at his home with his loving family and friends by his side.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at the First Christian Church in Metropolis with Rev. Louis W. Brinker officiating. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Mr. Oliver was born on October 1, 1937 and on October 28, 1956, he was united in marriage to Nancy Kathryn Walters. Jerry was a retired business owner and an avid golfer and bowler. Jerry loved being around his family and friends and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy Oliver; 3 daughters, Kathy Rushing and husband Randy, Susan Flannery and husband Craig, and Jamey Mitchell and husband Tim; 7 grandchildren, Zachary Rushing, Amanda Holbrook and husband Daniel, Candace Armstrong and husband Blair, Ryan Flannery and wife Marissa, Carlin Flannery, Cody Mitchell, and Laken Mitchell; 4 great-grandchildren, Wilke Armstrong, Logan Holbrook, Madison Flannery, Rylan Flannery, and soon to be Blakely Jayne Armstrong; 1 brother, Dan Oliver and wife Norma; 1 brother-in-law, James Walters, Jr. and wife Virginia; nieces and nephews, Kim Futrell and husband Greg, David Oliver, James Walters III and wife Lorie, Russ Walters and wife Yukako, and Brett Walters and fiancé Sarah; and numerous cousins, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Ruth (Kotter) Oliver; mother and father-in-law, James Sr. and Irene Walters; and stillborn brother, Robert Oliver.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 until the funeral hour at 3:00 p.m on Sunday, May 18th at the First Christian Church in Metropolis.
