Metropolis, Illinois | May. 23, 1932 | Mar. 20, 2018

Margaret Sue Bonifield Glass, 85, of Metropolis, Illinois went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Southgate Nursing Home with her family close by.

Margaret Sue was born in Metropolis, Illinois on May 23, 1932 to Fred Bonifield and Stella Grace Bonifield.  She graduated from Metropolis Community High School in 1944, and married her sweetheart, Coval Wayne Glass at First Baptist Church in Metropolis on February 8, 1953.  They lived in the same house together for over 6 decades, and often boasted that they never had a fight in their lives.

Sue was a wonderful, kind, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.  Her and Wayne had a fairy tale relationship which she cherished. She was always supportive of the sports and activates her children and grandchildren were involved in, made them feel loved, and took them to church regularly.  She never forgot a friend’s or family member’s birthday or anniversary and was famous for sending cards to celebrate people’s lives with them.

Sue was heavily involved with the mission and community of First Baptist Church.  She proudly sang with the choir for most of her life and was passionate about what they did.  She was active in the Women’s Mission organization, taught Sunday School classes, served on committees, and volunteered when needed.  She was a constant student of the Bible, and practiced what she learned by loving, helping others, and telling people about Jesus her whole life.  She loved to travel, meet people, and tell everyone about her family and her church.

Mrs. Glass helped her father, Fred Bonifield, who owned Bonifield Brother’s Truck Lines, and Bonifield 555 Service Station in Metropolis.  She aided with daily organizational affairs and helped keep the books.  She helped the family business grow to a nationally known transportation company, with offices all over the Midwest.  At peak, Bonifield Brothers operated 400 trucks, and set many first in the trucking industry.

Margaret Sue Glass is survived by, son Kelly and Cathe Glass, son David and Laurie Glass; grandchildren Toby (and Leigh) Glass, Jacob (and Careece) Glass, Elijah Glass, Mckense Glass (and Chandler) Shepherd, and Quincy Glass; and great-grandchildren Riley, Piper, Samuel, Ceeley, Ella, and Jonah.  Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Coval Wayne Glass, and her only sibling, who passed away as a baby.

Funeral services will be held at 3 pm on Friday, March 23, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Metropolis with Bro. Marc Glass and Dr. Joe Buchanan officiating. Burial will follow in the Masonic Cemetery.
