Rosalie Kay Corse, age 65, passed away on April 19 at Lourdes Hospice Center in Paducah, KY, surrounded by her loving family. Rosalie was born on April 16, 1953, to Quentin and Lottie Powell of Metropolis. She attended Unity Grade School, Metropolis Community High School, Southern Illinois University and Northern Illinois University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in home economics. With the exception of those college years, she was a life-long resident of Massac County, living most of her life in her childhood home.
Rosalie was a truly loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, and she devoted her life to her family and friends. Those left to mourn her passing include her husband of sixteen years Richard Corse, her daughters Kate Neely and Diana Neely, her stepmother Loraine Powell, her step-children Rich Corse (Teresa), Ben Corse (Courtney), and Angie Clifton (Kevin), her sister Janet Maggio (Len), her stepsister Mary D. Tucker (David) and stepbrother Philip Dummeier (Judy), several nieces and nephews, many step-grandchildren, her cousins, and countless friends who were touched and inspired by this very special lady.
She was preceded in death by her parents Quentin and Lottie Powell and her grandparents Edd and Katie Wiedeman and George and Maude Powell.
From an early age Rosalie had a love for color and color combinations and later worked to decorate her home and the homes of others. She also had the ability to design floor plans for homes, maybe a gift she inherited from her father. Over her lifetime she worked for Crate&Barrel in West Chicago, at various gift and floral shops, and at Fleming Furniture. After earning her teaching certificate from Murray State University, she taught in the Vienna school district for several years preceding her early retirement due to her illness.
Throughout her life, she carried with her an unconquerable spirit, which allowed her to face whatever challenges presented themselves, including the effects of a debilitating neurological disorder. She never faltered, always displaying grace, dignity and strength. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 21st from noon to 2 pm with a memorial service to follow. Both the visitation and memorial service will be held at Miller-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home in Metropolis, IL.
