Van R. Burnley, age 84, died Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 2:20 p.m. at Life Care Center of LaCenter, KY. 

 

Van’s first job was at Union Carbide.  He also worked at Tele-Service many years and also owned Van’s Body Shop in Barlow, KY.  He was a member of Barlow United Methodist Church, a Veteran of the United States Army where he served in Germany, a member of Cairo Elks Lodge 651, and he served on the Selective Service System for fifteen years.  Van enjoyed his favorite hobby, which was going to gas and steam engine shows.

 

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nannie Sue W. Burnley of Barlow, KY; one son, Chris V. Burnley of Barlow, KY; sister, Bonita Abernathy of Kevil, KY; two brothers, Richard Burnley of Kevil, KY, and Robert Burnley of Danville, KY; two great-granddaughters, Melanie and Lakyn Burnley of Wickliffe, KY; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Van was preceded in death by his son, Jack R. Burnley; one grandson, Blake R. Burnley, one sister and two brothers and his parents, the late William Thomas and Edna Burnley of Ballard County. 

 

Graveside services will be held at Barlow Cemetery on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Matthew Thomas officiating.

 

There will be no visitation.
