Mrs. Ela Byers Burkeen age 95, of Dexter, Ky., died Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the Murray Calloway Co. Hospital.

She was born June 3, 1917 in Marshall Co., Ky., to the late Hardin and Daisey Shotwell Byers.

Mrs. Burkeen was a homemaker, and member of the Palestine United Methodist, also the older adult Sunday school class, and the missionary women’s society.

She is survived by her husband, Homer Burkeen of Dexter; they married Nov. 26, 1938 in Marshall Co., one son Jimmie Burkeen and wife Pat of Murray, Ky., two grandchildren, Ronnie Burkeen and wife Lisa of Almo, Ky., and LaVonda Russell of Murray, Ky. also five great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Reba Alexander, Treva Young, and Mavis Inman, four brothers, Roch, Rex, Clenen, and Reggie Byers.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home, Rev. Robert McKinney will officiate, and burial will follow in the Palestine United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 25, 2012 after 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
