Dorothy Maxine Cayard passed away on December 25, 2017, in Memphis, Tennessee.  She was born on January 25, 1926, at Bardwell, Kentucky.  She was the daughter of the late Artie and Rufus Robertson.

 

Dorothy graduated from Bardwell High School and then attended the University of Kentucky.  After teaching school a short time, she moved to Memphis where she was employed by Lion Oil Company.  After Lion Oil merged with Monsanto Chemical Company, she moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, with Monsanto.

In 1959 she married Donald E. Cayard of New Orleans.  Don was a Monsanto employee and they moved to various states with Monsanto.  Dorothy enjoyed being a housewife and making friends throughout the country.  When Don retired they moved from St. Louis, Missouri, to Ormond Beach, Florida.

After Don’s death, Dorothy moved back to Memphis where she still had many friends.  She joined Cherry Road Baptist Church where she enjoyed the Christian fellowship as long as she was able to attend.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother, James E. Robertson.  She is survived by two sisters, Edith M. Kennemore and Frances D. Dodson, both of Memphis, and several beloved nieces and nephews.

 

Visitation will be held at Milner and Orr Funeral Home in Bardwell, Kentucky, on Friday, December 29, from 12 noon to 1 pm, with funeral service at 1 pm.  Rev. Ian Carrico will officiate with burial following in Old Bardwell cemetery.
