One of the world’s brightest lights, Evelyn Rose Milwain Yates, 91, of Bardwell, Kentucky, passed away Jan. 23, 2020.

Ms. Yates was a devoted member of Bardwell United Methodist Church for many years and worked at Bardwell Deposit Bank for 35 years. Ms. Yates and her late husband, Glen, the love of her life, enjoyed traveling the world, raising their beloved son, Milwain, and watching their granddaughter, Christin, grow up over the years. Ms. Yates was the epitome of a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Ms. and Mr. Yates were married Nov. 7, 1947 at the First Baptist Church in Mayfield, Kentucky. Their marriage was one of mutual respect, trust and love that lasted for more than 65 years and will continue on throughout eternity. Mr. and Mrs. Yates’ love and marriage enriched and enlightened all whose lives they touched.

Ms. Yates was always the “belle of the ball,” with her impeccable sense of style and fashion. Spunky and always smiling, Ms. Yates enjoyed the company of her many friends over the years, and she was always in her “Sunday best,” ready for a visitor to stop by her home at any time. In her later years, her cat “Precious” was her constant companion, and Ms. Yates always wanted her by her side.

Ms. Yates is survived by her sister and best friend, Mary Jean Lummis of Paducah, Kentucky; daughter-in-law Tina Yates Phelan and husband Cooper of Collierville, Tennessee; granddaughter Christin Yates of Memphis, Tennessee; step-grandchildren, Tina Phelan Bell (Jason) of Lakeland, Tennessee; and Kevin Phelan (Christine) of Germantown, Tennessee. Ms. Yates is also survived by her niece Jennifer Travis (Ronny) of Paducah, Kentucky; nephew David Lummis (Csaba) of Paducah, Kentucky; and nephew Henry Maxwell Lummis IV (Connie) of Bonita Springs, Florida.

In addition, Ms. Yates is survived by many of her caretakers over the years including Angelica Guerrero, Janet West, Wendy Bowman, Susie Case and Jackie Hendrix, all of Bardwell, Kentucky, who have become like family.

Ms. Yates was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Edgar Glen Yates; son, Glen Milwain Yates; and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Burgess Milwain.

Ms. Yates’s favorite quote was, “If tears could build a stairway and memory a lane, I’d walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.” Her loved ones find great comfort in knowing she is happily reunited with Glen and Milwain, and their memories of her will live on forever.
