Kye Leonard Hickerson, Jr., 84, of Arlington, KY passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon surrounded by his loving family.

 

K.L. was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church of Arlington and lived a life of service to others.  After serving his country as a Staff Sergeant in the 421st Air Refueling Squad of the Air Force, he was a member of the 807th Mash, Reserve unit.  He was a member of The American Legion, post 250, and served as the adjutant.  As a member of the Woodmen of the World, Chapter 38, he held many different offices, locally as well as nationally.  He was a member of the Arlington Fire Department, serving as Fire Chief for many years.

 

After serving his country, K.L. operated the local Standard Oil service station in Arlington for a few years.  He then became a Switchyard Operator for TVA, retiring after 26 years of service.  He was a member of IBEW, Local 816.  He was known as Mr. Fixit because he could repair most anything, mostly for his church, his community and town as well as the surrounding area.  His skills encompassed electrical, plumbing, welding, auto mechanics, woodworking, locksmithing and most every other trade.  In his later years, he enjoyed sitting on his front porch of the log house he built.

 

He volunteered as a Boy Scout leader, worked at the Arlington American Legion Ball Park, operating the concession stand during ball season and during winter months when the skating rink was operational, providing entertainment for children and adults.

 

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carolyn Jones Massey Hickerson; his children Cynthia Hocker and husband Robert of Arlington, Tim Hickerson and wife Tori of Southington, CT, Mike Massey and wife Tina of Arlington, Lydia Hickerson of Weatherford, TX, and Mitch Massey of Arlington; 12 grandchildren, Joshua Hickerson of Chaplin, KY, Daniel and David Isaac Hickerson of NC, Benjamin Hocker and wife Brittanie of Nashville, TN, Jonathan Hocker of Clarksville, TN, Jessica Gardiner and Kayla Hickerson of Southington, CT, Ryan Bennett of Living Kingwood, TX, Greg Bennett and wife Lisa of San Francisco, Ca, Katie Massey and fiancé” Paul Berhow of Murray, KY, Carol Comer and husband Michael of Cunningham, KY and Christy Hickerson of Azel, TX; 8 great grandchildren, Shannon and Bailee Hickerson of Chaplin, KY, Callie and Harlee Hocker of Nashville, TN, Jacob Gardiner of Southington, CT, Miles Bennett of San Francisco, CA, Gunner Berhow of Murray, KY and Hunter Comer of Cunningham, KY.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kye and Ola Mae Wilson Hickerson, Sr., his brother, Glynn Hickerson, his sister, Frances Ellis, his infant sister, Geraldine Hickerson and his son David Hickerson.

 

Funeral services for K.L. Hickerson will be held 2:00 pm Sunday July 30, 2017, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Arlington, KY.  Rev. Mickey Ellis will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Arlington City Cemetery, Visitation will begin after 5:00 pm Saturday July the 29, 2017 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home in Arlington, KY.
