Carl Bloom of Mayfield, Kentucky passed away June 27 at the age of 90.  The son of Swedish immigrants, he was born in Akron, Ohio on August 22, 1925.  After serving in the U. S. Navy during World War II where he experienced combat on a battleship in the Philippines, he then began his career with General Tire and Rubber Company in Akron.  Carl moved to Mayfield, Kentucky in 1960 as one of the first employees of the Mayfield plant.  After 42 years of service and numerous promotions in his career, Mr. Bloom retired at the age of 59 and spent many happy years in retirement.

A devoted and loving husband and father, Carl leaves behind his beloved wife Mary of 67 years, his only child Kathy Bloom Kelley of Sanford, Florida, one bother Lenard Bloom, several nieces and nephews.  Friends and former coworkers often described Carl as a gentleman who treated others with respect and kindness and as a family man who loved his wife and daughter above all else.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Darren Stone of Jackson Purchase Medical Center for his excellent and loving medical care.  Carl often spoke of his faith in Dr. Stone and how he always felt like he was talking to a trusted friend each time he encountered Dr. Stone in his office or the hospital.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date following cremation.  Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org in honor of Mr. Bloom. Lindsey Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
