Elizabeth G. Blodgett, 77, of Murray, died Wednesday at Murray-Calloway County Hospital of natural causes.  She was born July 30, 1938 in Birmingham, Alabama to Lucas and Anne Gregg.  She held a B.A. in Speech from Stetson University, a M.A. in Speech from Auburn University, a M.A. in Speech Pathology from The University of Alabama, and an EdD. in Special Education/Speech-Language Pathology from The University of Alabama.

Betty was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.  She served on the board of Angels Attic and was Chair since 2007.  She also held positions in the Episcopal Diocese of Kentucky and served on the board of the Murray State University Federal Credit Union from 1999 to present.

Betty began her career as a speech pathologist in Alabama in 1971 and she joined the faculty at The University of Alabama in 1974 in the Department of Communication Disorders.  She came to Murray State University in 1977 as the Coordinator of Clinical Services for the MSU Speech & Hearing Clinic.  She served as Director of the Division of Communication Disorders from 1984 – 1988, Chair of the Department of Special Education from 1988 – 1998, Assistant Dean of the College of Education from 1998 – 2000, and Dean of the College of Health and Human Services from 2000 – 2007. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank E. Blodgett.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Sharon Hart, and husband John of Murray; her son, Jeff Blodgett, and wife Lori of Charles City, Iowa; a sister, Jeanie LeVitt, of Kingsland, Texas; four grandsons, Benjamin Hart of Louisville, Kentucky, Steven Hart of Phoenix, Arizona, Adam Blodgett of Brooklyn, New York, and Justin Blodgett of Los Angeles, California.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 11am Saturday at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Murray.  Visitation will follow in the St. John’s parish hall.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. John’s Episcopal Church Discretionary Fund, 1620 Main Street, Murray.
