James L. Petcoff, 81, of Wickliffe, formerly of Dyer, Indiana, passed away Friday, December 27, 2019, after a long illness.
Mr. Petcoff was born January 24, 1938, in Gary, Indiana and was a 1957 graduate of Griffith (Ind.) High School.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Phyllis Poole Petcoff of Wickliffe; sons Ronald Petcoff and daughter-in-law Omonpéé Petcoff of Arlington, Texas, and Russell Petcoff and daughter-in-law Lisa Petcoff of Haymarket, Virginia; grandson Desmond Petcoff of Arlington, Texas; sister Patricia Comer and husband Dave of Sarasota, Florida; and three nieces and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his father Louis Simon Petcoff and mother Marie Lucille Amos Petcoff.
He attended Piping Trades at Washburn Trade School, Chicago. He was a member of Chicago Pipefitters Local 597.
In addition to spending time with his wife, Mr. Petcoff enjoyed tending to the fruit trees in his orchard, tinkering on projects in his garage, spending time with his cocker spaniels and watching the Chicago Bears. He also enjoyed attending Paducah Symphony Orchestra concerts with his wife.
Mr. Petcoff was involved in making the local community better. He designed and planned the LaCenter Farmer’s Market. He was also active in the Master Gardeners program in McCracken County helping half-way house inmates grow fresh vegetables.
Funeral services for Mr. Petcoff will be held at 1:00 p.m. on January 2, 2020 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home in Paducah. Burial will follow at Saint Mary Cemetery in LaCenter.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. till time of service on January 2, 2020 at the funeral home.
