Linda L. Woods Baumgardner-Buie of Ledbetter, Kentucky finally succumbed to cancer on Saturday, March 17, 2018, after a three-year battle. She passed away at home in bed, asleep, with her husband at home with her. Thank God for that blessing. She was sweet, tough as nails, retired from nursing at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, and handled the horrific ordeal of pancreatic cancer - chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, the abdominal pain and all that came with it - with a grace that seemed both impossible and superhuman.

Linda was born in Washington Court House, Ohio, on May 7, 1949. She grew up in Indiana as the youngest of five children. She is survived by her loving husband David Buie, her eight children Dawn Marie White (husband Ralph), Stephen Ross Johnson (wife Amy), Robert Joseph Johnson (wife Taryn), Chris Buie (wife Toni), John Buie (wife Nancy), Patrick Buie, Amy Buie, Cory Buie, tons of grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, siblings Jack Woods (wife Paulette), Caroletta Schneck (friend Bud), Patricia Henegar (husband Lloyd), and too many friends to list. She was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Loretta Woods, brother Jerry Woods, and son Johnathan Swallow.

Linda was passionate about nursing, and for over three decades cared for the sick, leaving a legacy of nurses she mentored. She loved her family, camping, motorcycle riding, animals, dancing to the juke box, hula-hoops, singing, and being the life of the party. She and her husband were long time members of Faith Apostolic Church in Possum Trot.

“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31. We love and miss you, Mom, but you live on through each of your children, your family, your friends and the lives you saved and touched as a nurse.

The family will receive friends at Lindsey Funeral Home in Paducah from 5pm-8pm on Tuesday, March 20 and from 1-3pm on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, with a celebration of life service to follow officiated by pastor Terry Phelps.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Linda’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/
