Mrs. Barbara H. Malinauskas, 76, formerly of Murray, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2018 at Carriage House Inn Assisted Living in Shelbyville, TN. Barbara was born in Estherville, Iowa on July 30, 1941. She graduated from Grinnell College, Grinnell, Iowa with a B.A. in 1963 and received her Master's Degree from Murray State University in 1985. Barbara was retired from the Department of Organizational Communication at Murray State University where she taught for ten years and received the Max Carman Outstanding Teaching Award in 2003. She also taught at UT-Martin, but began her teaching career as an elementary teacher in California, Oregon and Wisconsin. Throughout her life, Barbara occasionally acted in college, summer and community theater productions. She was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church, volunteered at the Gentry House in Murray and was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Malinauskas to whom she was married 49 years; her father, Robert M. Hansen and her mother, Carmen Twito Hansen. Surviving are her three children, Deidre Malinauskas of Murray; Sean Malinauskas of San Deigo, CA and Megan Betzelberger (Marc) of Shelbyville, TN; her five delightful grandsons, Jacob, Benjamin, Jonathan, Noah and Luke; a lovely granddaughter, Adelyn; a caring sister, Joan Smith; aunts, LeAnn Paulson and Virginia Knutson and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 11 AM and the committal interment will follow in the church's Memorial Garden. Expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, may take the form of contributions to St. John's Memorial Garden, MSU Development Fund or Alive Hospice.
