Bob Lassiter, 88, passed away Friday, January 11, 2019, at his home in Murray, KY, surrounded by family and loved ones.  He was born May 23, 1930, in Detroit, MI, depression-era transplants from Hazel, KY, to Ray and Myrtle Lassiter.  

Bob grew up in Hazel, KY, where his parents operated Lassiter’s Grocery Store and Mill from 1939 until 1985, a life-long 46-year career serving the Calloway and Henry County area residents.  He graduated from Hazel High School, class of 1948.  Following graduation, he attended college at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and Murray State College.  He went on to obtain his professional engineering license and worked for Union Carbide in Oak Ridge, TN, and in Paducah, KY; Jones Florence Brockenborough in Evansville, IN; Kennedy Space Center (both the Gemini and Apollo programs) and retired from the Florida Department of Transportation after 25 years.  

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Sylvia Marcelle Langston Lassiter, and daughter Sylvia Kaye Lassiter.  His is survived by:  his sister, Ruth Ann Lassiter McClure (Max)/Murray, KY; his children, including Tannis Lassiter (Timothy)/Pocatello, ID, Sans Lassiter (Roberta)/Flagler Beach, FL, Nils Lassiter/San Diego, CA, Sven Lassiter/Murray, KY, and Bianca McBride (Gary)/Phoenix, AZ; his grandchildren, including Rich, Paul and David Lachowsky, Lauren Epstein and Jesse R. Lassiter, Lucas Lassiter, Timothy Lassiter, Adam Lassiter Carrera and Alana Beard, Tanise Nester, Chelsea Smith, Wally Bullard, IV, and Jesse Bullard; 14 great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at Heritage Chapel of Imes Funeral Home, 1804 State Route 121 Bypass North, Murray on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 from 5-8 pm. 

The funeral will be held at Hazel Baptist Church, 215 Gilbert Street, Hazel, on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 11 am, followed by a brief graveside service at South Pleasant Grove and luncheon at Hazel Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in his memory to Hazel Baptist Church, Hazel, KY.
