Mr. Dennis J. Joseph, age, 70 of Benton, KY passed away Thursday, November 23, 2017, at Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center in Paducah, KY.

Dennis James Joseph was welcomed into the world on March 27, 1947, by his proud parents, Wavil and Lola Joseph. By the young age of 5, Dennis began to develop a good work ethic by helping with the family dairy operation.

A year and a day after his birth, he welcomed sister, Susan, into the world; then six years later, a brother, David. The family worked hard and had little time for social activities. They attended New Bethel Baptist Church and were very involved with Sunday school programs and Training Union classes. Many Sundays after church they would eat dinner, go visit with family, or have family at their house for a meal.

Dennis worked on the farm while attending college at Murray State University, where he earned a BS in Biology and his master’s degree in Ag Science. After graduation from college, Dennis taught for five years at North Marshall High School; then twelve years at MCHS.

In 1975, the Josephs sold the dairy business, concentrated on row cropping, and purchased Josephs Department store in Benton. Dennis continued to farm, teach, and assisted in the operation of the clothing store.

Dennis married Ronecca (Portis) in 1982, and in 1984 welcomed daughter, Blair, into the world and son, Austin, in 1987.

In 1983, upon Wavil Joseph’s retirement, Dennis and David assumed the responsibility of the family farming operation and continued in the footsteps of their father.

Dennis and Ronecca opened Back Street Station, a family music show, in 1989.

After 17 consecutive years of attending Sunday school, Dennis had set a good example for his family, showing them the importance of regular attendance.

Dennis enjoyed coaching Austin and Blair’s sports teams and was very involved in their lives and activities. He made it a priority to attend all of their basketball and football games. In recent years, he loved attending Austin’s rodeos and Blair’s concerts and special events. Two of his joys in life were his two grandchildren, Kora and Kade.

Dennis and Ronecca have enjoyed traveling and working together at special events and basketball tournaments all over the south; enabling them to spend quality time with family and friends.

Probably more important than all of these, Dennis loved his Lord and Savior most of all. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School, so he could share the word of God and his personal experiences with his class. He would want you to know the most important thing you can do in life is place your faith and trust in Jesus Christ as your personal savior, ask forgiveness, believing that Christ died on the cross for our sins, and rose from the dead, ascended into Heaven to prepare a place for those who love and trust in Him. Nothing would please Dennis more than to reunite with each of you in the presence of God the Father in our heavenly home.

Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Ronecca (Portis) Joseph of Benton, KY; one son, Austin Joseph, wife Taylor of Benton, KY; one daughter, Blair Joseph of Nashville, TN; brother, David Joseph, wife Edith of Benton, KY; sister, Susan Shemwell, husband Gary of Benton, KY; and two grandchildren; Kade and Kora Joseph both of Benton, KY.

Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 pm on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Rodney Wallace, Rev. Royce Dukes and Rev. Mike Littrell officiating. Burial will follow in Cole Cemetery.
