Mr. George Edward Brazelton, age 77, passed away Thursday June 18, 2015 at
his home in Benton, KY from complications of Myasthenia Gravis. Born in
Belleville, IL on February 28, 1938, he graduated from Belleville Township High
School in 1956, St. Louis College of Pharmacy in 1961. While in College George
worked at Smith Drugs in Belleville, IL until he graduated, then moved to
Sparta, IL as a pharmacist for Hayes Pharmacy. During this time he started a
hospital pharmacy at Sparta Community Hospital where he served as Chief
Pharmacist until 1971. In 1969 George opened his own pharmacy in Marissa, IL in
which he operated until 1988, when he decided to move to Kentucky Lake. While in
Kentucky, George was a Pharmacy and Drug inspector from 1989-1997, then worked
part time at J&R Pharmacy in Benton, KY from 1997-2010. He was also a
volunteer Pharmacist at St. Nicholas Family Clinic.
George will be greatly missed by his family, friends and neighbors. He was well liked in his community and was considered the "Mayor" of his subdivision. George was no slacker. Besides building his first home in Sparta, IL and last home on Kentucky Lake, he was very active in all the communities he lived in serving on various boards. During all of this activity George found time to enjoy fishing, boating, washing his cars, helping his neighbors, being incredibly organized, enjoying his family and friends, and he loved a good Hershey's Chocolate bar with a glass of bourbon or beer.
He is survived by his Wife Shirley Bragg Brazelton, sons Craig(Carol)Brazelton and Matthew Brazelton(Jeff Jensen), Grandchildren Carrie Clayton(Robbie), Michael Brazelton(Jordyn Noones) and Great Grandson Wesley Otto George Clayton, Step Sons Greg Wilson(Amber) and Terry Bragg(Janice), step daughter Teresa Rice(Tim), Step Grandchildren Clint and Nellie Wilson and Dillon Bragg.
He is preceded in death by his wife Florence Campbell Brazelton, parents George John and Emma (Peterson) Brazelton, and sister Shirley Rose Brazelton.
There will be a short memorial service 11:30am on Saturday, June 27, 2015 and then an open house following at his home in Kentucky.
