JOSEPH "JOE" E. YERGA VALPARAISO, IN. Joseph “Joe” E. Yerga, age 84 of Valparaiso and formerly of Griffith, IN and Benton, KY, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014. He was born May 27, 1930 in East Chicago, IN. Joe is survived by his son, David (Debra) of Valparaiso; daughters, Deborah of Toledo, OH and Diane (Wayne) Bulla of DeMotte, IN; 7 grandchildren and their spouses; 16 great grandchildren; sister, Patricia (late Jerome) Styka of Crown Point, IN; sisters-in-law: Helen (Floyd) Farmer of Kentucky and Suzan (Jim) Dabisch of Wisconsin; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne (nee Suchar); parents, Joseph and Ann (nee Stiglitz); step-father, Michael Poloncak, Sr.; step-brother, Michael (late Angeline) Poloncak, Jr.; father and mother-in-law, Charles and Anna Suchar; and brother-in-law, George Suchar. Joe was a charter member of St. Henry Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree Council 11453, Aurora, KY, and was the financial secretary. He was also a charter member of the St. Henry Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Assembly 2405 and was Faithful Navigator and Faithful Comptroller and a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, Aurora, KY. Joe retired as an electrician from LTV after 31 years of service. A Memorial Mass was held on Friday, August 8, 2014 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Valparaiso, IN, where Joe was a member.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Henry’s Catholic Cemetery in Aurora, KY. Rev. Gregory G. Trawick will officiate. Inurnment will follow the service.
