Roy Coleman Riley Jr. (R. C.), 76, of Benton, Kentucky, passed away on July 9, 2018, at the Stilley House Memory Care Community.

R. C. was born in Benton, on April 12, 1942, to the late Mattie Lou (Barnes) and R. Coleman Riley.  A graduate of Lambuth College in Jackson, TN,

R. C. returned to Benton where he lived his entire life.  He was a lifelong Methodist and an active member of Benton First United Methodist Church.  Over the years he held many leadership positions in the church with a special interest in the church’s development and growth for the future.  He loved Benton and his community, and served in various volunteer positions throughout his life.  The Marshall County Republican Party held a special place in his heart.  He was the inaugural member of the Coleman Riley Society which received its name from his father. 

R. C. began his insurance career in 1965 with Peel & Holland.

Early on, he served as President of the Independent Insurance Agents of Kentucky, receiving their highest recognition award, Insuror of the Year, in 1979. He then went on to serve a six-year term on the Board of Directors of the largest national trade association of independent insurance agents, the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (IIABA). In 1991, he was elected President, and in 1994, was presented with their highest honor, the Woodworth Memorial Award, citing his distinguished service.  As a pioneering business leader, he served his clients, Peel & Holland and his industry for more than 40 years with outstanding integrity.

R. C. is survived by his wife of twenty-one years, Peg Riley, and cherished sons and daughters-in-law: Roy and his wife, Jennifer, of Murray, and Keith and his wife, Jan, of Benton, Kentucky. Loved stepfamilies are Paige Eaves and Forrest Robinson of Altadena, California, Chris and Leslie Eaves of Germantown, Tennessee, and Kelly Alan Eaves of Homewood, Alabama. He cared dearly for his sister-in-law of 55 years, Joan Carter, and her husband, Woodson, of Lewisburg, Tennessee. Cherished grandchildren are Ariel (Dan) Batton, Hannah Jo Riley, Coleman Riley, Kate Eaves, Chase Riley, Morgan Eaves, and Collin Riley.  Beloved great grandsons are Luke and Chance Batton. He was preceded in death by his first wife Jane Elizabeth Butler Riley and infant granddaughter Samantha Elizabeth Riley.

Visitation will be Saturday, 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Benton, KY.  Gifts of love and remembrance may be made to Benton First United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 845 US Hwy, 641 Spur, Benton, KY 42025.
