Robert Graves McDermott, 84, of Hazel, died Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 11:20 AM at his home.

Robert was born February 24, 1928 in Murray to the late Robert Emmitt McDermott and Sarah Phillips McDermott Carroll.

He was a member of the Murray Fire Department in the late 50’s and early 60’s. He also worked for many years as a service station manager and regular supervisor for Ashland Oil and as a manager for Tenneco Oil, for whom he operated a services station in Mayfield from 1979-1985 then in Nashville until his retirement in 1991. Following his retirement from Tenneco, Robert was self-employed performing various maintenance jobs for several condominiums in the Nashville area.

Robert was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the University of Kentucky Wildcats and greatly enjoyed both of their recent championships.

He was recently baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Velma Carroll and Mildred Outland and a niece, Peggy Carroll.

Robert is survived by his wife, Patricia Cissell, to whom he was married May 7, 1960; two sons, Robert Novis McDermott (Carol) of Graves County, Scott Allen McDermott of St. Louis, MO; a daughter, Kelly McDermott of Hermitage, TN; four grandchildren, Terry McDermott (Tammy), Tina Warren (Chad), Tammy Forrester (Eric) and Jason Robert McDermott all of Mayfield; two nieces, Gaye Brandstetter (Frank) of Gilbertsville, Joan Coles of Murray; three great grandchildren, Lanie McDermott, Whitney Warren and Brantley Forrester. Two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law also survive.

A committal service will be held at noon, Tuesday, August 21, at the Murray City Cemetery. Entombment will follow. Father Jason McClure will officiate.

The family will receive visitors from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Tuesday at the Imes-Miller Funeral Home.
