Mr. Walter Henry Mitchell, age 94 of Benton, KY, passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born Monday, September 8, 1924 in Blue Earth, Minn, he was the son of the late William Charles Mitchell and the late Hazel Telene (Berhow) Mitchell. He was a graduate of Bradley University with a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. His career allowed him to travel the world working as an engineer for Alcoa Aluminum and finally retiring from Morrison-Knudsen Corporation.
He honorably served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater. He was a member of the Briensburg-T.L. Jefferson Lodge 401 of F.& A.M. and was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Agnes (Vincent) Mitchell of Benton, KY, sons, Mark Mitchell of Topeka, KS and Jeff Revelette of Cushing, OK, daughters, Brenda Mitchell of Benton, KY, Leesa Mitchell of Louisville, KY, Rebecca Williams of Benton, KY and Tammy Dickey of Benton, KY, sisters, Marie VanHounten of Farmington, IL, Violet Schreiber of Morton, IL and Irene Hargrove of Pollock Pines, CA; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Michael Kent Mitchell and Byron Edward Revelette, and one sister, Chloe Crawford.
Masonic rites will be held Monday, December 3, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, the public is invited to attend.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 3, 2018 at 3:30 p.m. at the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, 1950 Big Bear Hwy, Benton, KY 42025. Rev. Kim Morrison and Rev. Bill Lawson will officiate. Military honors will follow the services.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Monday, December 3, 2018, at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, Benton, KY.
The family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
