Birdie Miller Reeves Claybrooks, 102, Paducah, made her celestial transition on Sunday, November 16, 2014, 2:00 am, from Superior Care Home-Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Paducah.
“Mama Birdie” as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends, was a member of Ninth Street Church of Christ where she was a former Sunday School Teacher. She was a homemaker and a recipient of the Duchess of Paducah, Kentucky Colonel, and numerous recognitions and honors from city officials, the governor of Kentucky and President of the United States for her service to the community.
She was a woman of great wisdom who had a good memory and desired complete attention whenever she spoke. She also loved to fish, crochet, quilt, and garden.
Preceding her in death were her parents, James Miller and Rosie Senter Miller; first husband George H. Reeves, Sr.; her second husband James Claybrooks; one son, George H. Reeves, Jr.; two daughters, Wynetta Caldwell and Etta Mae Collins; four grandchildren and two great grandsons.
Those to cherish her loving memories are five daughters, Frances Hamilton (BA) of West Paducah, Loretta Stewart (George) of Louisville, Shirley Shumpert of Paducah, Doris Wilson of Kansas City, MO, and Bobbie Wiggins of Virginia Beach, VA; one son, Larry Reeves(Martha) of Paducah; thirty-three grandchildren, seventy-three great grandchildren, and fifty-five great great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard Miller of South Carolina; one sister Dorothy Mayes of Cleveland, OH; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2014, 1:00 pm, at Ninth Street Church of Christ with Brother Mark Rowe officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Friends may also call at the Ninth Street Church of Christ on Saturday from 11:00 am until the funeral hour.
