Henry Eugene Nangle, 98, of Westfield, IN, formerly of Paducah, KY, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2016.  

Henry was born in Paducah on March 10, 1918, to Henry Joseph and Delia (Mularky) Nangle, he attended St. Mary Academy, graduated from St. Xavier High School in Louisville, KY, and attended Paducah Junior College, later known as Paducah Community College.  During WWII, Henry served in the Army Air Corps, a forerunner to the US Air Force.  He was a bombardier on a B-17 bomber in the European theatre.  Henry was stationed in England and flew 23 missions over Germany and Eastern Europe as a member of the 100th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force, often referred to as the "Bloody 100th", due to their many casualties.  Henry received the Air Medal and three Oak Leaf Clusters as well as the Bronze Star in recognition of his service.  After the war, he returned to Paducah, and in August of 1947, married Mary Margaret Mudd of Owensboro, KY.   He was employed for over 40 years as a machinist at the Illinois Central Railroad in Paducah.  He was an active member of St Thomas More Catholic Church in Paducah where he served on the parish council.  Henry and Mary Margaret also lived in Nashville, TN, for several years and moved to Carmel, IN in 2005 to be near their daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter. 

He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Kroeff and husband Gene; his granddaughter, Maggie Kroeff, all of Carmel, IN; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mary Margaret; his son, Henry Thomas Nangle, and his sisters, Sr. Catherine Maria, SCN, and Nellie Nangle Roof.

Henry was a wonderful husband and father and a devoted friend to all who knew him.

A Funeral Mass is scheduled for 11:00 am Friday, May 6, 2016 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, in Paducah, KY. Father Michael Charles Ajigo Abiero will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the church from 9-11:00 am, Friday, prior to the Funeral Mass.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Wellbrooke of Westfield for the wonderful care they gave Henry over the past two and a half years.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made by a  donation in Henry's name to St. Xavier High School, Office of Advancement, 1609 Poplar Level Road, Louisville, KY 40217.
