Herman Claude “H.C.” Sams, Jr., 87, of Bardwell, KY, completed his earthly work and was called by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ to join Him in the Kingdom of Heaven early Wednesday morning, April 26, 2017 at Countryside Center in Bardwell, KY.
H.C. began his adult life as a dairy farmer and when led to pursue a new career, he became a successful business man who eventually owned and managed automotive, farm and tractor parts stores in Bardwell, KY, Wickliffe, KY, and Cairo, IL. After his retirement, he joined the sales team of Rollison Equipment Company, Inc., Bardwell, KY and Diesel Power, Inc., Paducah, KY where he continued to share his faith at every opportunity.
H.C. served his Lord with devotion and gladness throughout the years in positions of Sunday School Director, Sunday School Teacher and Deacon, to name a few, and was currently a member of Lone Oak First Baptist Church, Paducah, KY. H.C. was also a very active Lions Club International member, holding positions as high as District Governor. In recognition of his humanitarian service, he was also recognized as a Melvin Jones Fellow.
H.C. loved his family dearly and passed on not only his faith but also his sense of humor.
Surviving are his children; David (Nora) Sams, Henderson, NV, Patricia (Kevin) O’Neill, Bardwell,KY, Barbara Sams, Lexington, KY, Mike (Angela) Sams, Martin, TN; step-sons, Mike (Trudy) Faulkner, Mayfield, KY, Hal (Beth) Faulkner, Hopkinsville, KY; eleven grandchildren; Shannan Tujios, Lauren Sams, Christopher O’Neill, Eric O’Neill, Douglas O’Neill, Jeffrey Solomon, Emily Murphy, Carly Wilson, Tyler Sams, Garrett Sams, Ryan Sams, nine great-grandchildren and one sister, Linda Adams, Paducah, KY.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Lou Emma Cheniae Sams; his second wife, Virginia Sue Faulkner Sams; one brother, Bennie Wiley Sams and his parents Herman C. and Altie Austin Sams.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Milner and Orr Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Bardwell with Dr. Mike Sams officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memorial Gardens in Fulton, KY. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until the funeral hour on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at the funeral home.
