Johanna Marie Chumbler, 88, of Paducah, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2018 at Mercy Health.

Jo was born in Kuttawa, KY on September 15, 1930 to John Weyers, Sr. and Willie Carol Hayes Weyers. Her family moved to the Paducah area to help establish Van Aart Greenhouse and Florist, her great-uncle’s greenhouse where her dad was the grower originating from Holland.  She attended Andrew Jackson Elementary School and graduated from Heath High School and Paducah Junior College.  She met her husband, Lee Chumbler, at a function held at First Baptist Church and they married in 1959.  Jo was the bookkeeper for their business, Lee Chumbler State Farm Insurance Agency, and because of their dedication they were rewarded with many business trips which took them all over the world.  In addition, their Christian mission work led them on several global adventures.  For over fifty years, Jo was a member of Paducah First Baptist Church and participated in WMU.  She had also been involved in Paducah Lioness Club and Junior League.  Most recently, her membership was with Friendship Baptist Church.  Jo was devoted to prayer, and encouraged others to lead a prayerful life.  Generous, inclusive, gracious and classy, friends and family could always count on Jo to offer love and hospitality, sometimes simply through a glass of iced tea.  Her close group of friends, the “lunch bunch” also celebrated each other’s birthdays.  A voracious reader, Jo enjoyed hand-selecting books for her friends and family with careful consideration of their interests and taste.  They jokingly called her the “lending library” because she would leave books in unusual places for people to pick up.  Her needlepoint work was seen extensively throughout her home.

Surviving are her children, Leesa Chumbler and Mike (Kim) Chumbler; grandchildren, Lcpl Tucker Threatt, stationed in Hawaii, Lee Carol Threatt of Louisville, Chris Chumbler , Carson Chumbler both of Paducah, and Caitlin Miller of Nashville; adopted daughter, Clare Miller of Paducah; brother, John (Dorothea) Weyers, Jr. of Paducah; nephew, John (Adrienne) Weyers III and their family; sisters-in-law, Lena (Elston) Thornton and Betty Jean (Paul) Colvin and their families; and many special nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Lee Chumbler; sister, Billie Weyers; and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.  Burial will follow at Macedonia Cemetery in Kuttawa.

Visitation will begin at 11am Tuesday at the funeral home.
