Mr. Joseph Petik, 85, of Murray, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Spring Creek Healthcare in Murray.

He was born the second of twin boys at 12:15 AM on October 18, 1931 in Highland Park Illinois Hospital.  His older twin was born at 11:45 PM on October 17, 1931. His father, John James Petik worked for the city of Highland Park.  His mother, a homemaker, was Katherine Kay Leuer.  Mr. Petik graduated from St. George High School, a Roman Catholic Institution in Evanston, Illinois in 1949.  Through the Chick Evans Schloarship, a program for caddies, he attended and graduated from Loyola University in Chicago in 1953.  Mr. Petik further studied to become a Roman Catholic priest, attending a year each at Quigley Seminary in Chicago, The University of Saint Mary of the Lake in Mundelein, Illinois, and Maryknoll Seminary in Glen Ellyn, Illinois.  He looked to finish his journey toward the priesthood at the secluded Blue Cloud Abby near the town of Marvin, South Dakota.  However, God had other plans for him.  He met his future wife through a friend he had made at Blue Cloud.  He and Mary Jane were married at the Saint Meinrad Parrish Church on June 20, 1963.  During his married life, Mr. Petik worked as a factory worker and for the United States Postal Service.  At different times during 1960's and 70's he worked as a teacher of elementary age students.  He took a permanent position and retired as a distribution clerk with USPS on September 11, 2001.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he is preceded in death by his older sister, Catherine Petik and his younger brother, James "Jake" Petik, his older twin, John, and a son, Nicholas.

He is survived by his younger sister, Mary Hoyt of Ozark, MO; his two sons, Andrew, wife Melissa of Murray, and David, wife Maureen, of Colorado Springs, CO; his daughter, Sheila Petik of Murray and six grandchildren, Nicholas Petik of Colorado Springs, CO, Emily, Grace, Thomas, Jonathan and Alyssa Petik all of Murray.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 PM on December, 2, 2017 at Hope Harbor Church in Murray with Art Heinz officiating.

The family will receive visitors from 1-2 PM at the church.
