Julius Cullen Tyler, 86, of Paducah, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017, 11:15 a.m., at the Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield, KY.

He was a member of Burks Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church where he had served as a trustee for over forty years, a steward, a custodian, was a member of the Brotherhood and member of the NAACP.  He was a graduate of the former Lincoln High School and Tennessee State University where he received a bachelor of science degree in agriculture education and botany.

He was a trainer and coordinator for the Operating Engineers Apprentice training program, and co-owner of Baker and Tyler Construction Company.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley R. Hensley Tyler of Paducah; one son, Jason Tyler of Nashville, TN; three daughters, Cheryl Byrd of Nashville, TN, Julie McClellan of Austin, TX, and Vickey Bolen of Dallas, TX; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Dematra of Louisville and Carol Young of Paducah and two nieces Ramona Tyler and Alicia Dematra and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jewel Tyler and Ocala Killebrew Tyler and two brothers.

Funeral service is scheduled for Monday, January 23, 2017, 1:00 p.m., at Burks Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church with Reverend B. Kennedy officiating.  Burial will follow at a later date in Shelton Chapel Cemetery in Viola, KY.

Friends may also call at the church on Monday from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour.
