Thomas Whayne Coates, age 88, of Bardwell, passed away at 4:30 am on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Countryside Health Care in Bardwell.
Mr. Coates was a retired maintenance mechanic for Union Carbide. He was a member of Briensburg Baptist Church and veteran of World War II having served in the U.S Army.
He is survived by his sons, Gary Coates of Tampa, FL., and Michael Coates of Bardwell; brother, James Coates of Arlington.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Omeda Katherine (Mofield) Coates; parents, Carl and Velma (Burgess) Coates; one sister and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Arlington with Rev. Max Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Burkley Cemetery. Friends may call after 11:00 am on Saturday at the funeral home.
