William “Bill” Wayne Walters, age 73 of Wickliffe, passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at his residence. 

 

Bill was born in Cairo, Illinois on September 15, 1944 to William Elmer Walters and Aline (Pittman) Walters.  Bill was a strong, Christian man who served as a longtime member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.   He always had a smile on his face and was never scared to walk up and greet friends and especially a stranger.   He was a dedicated worker as well, spending almost 30 years on the river, reaching the ranks of Captain for Ingram Barge Company.  Above all, Bill will be best remembered by his family and close friends as a loving and compassionate family man whose greatest pride were his children and grandchildren.

 

Bill is survived by two daughters, Tracy McDaniels and husband Tommy of La Center and Debbie Jean Underwood and husband Dale of Wickliffe; two sons, William Michael Walters and wife Pamela of Blandville and Mark Wayne Walters and wife Nacole of Wickliffe; two sisters, Brenda Jo Hornback and husband Ed of Madisonville and Velma Dean Wilson and husband Mike of La Center; two brothers, Robert “Bob” Glenn Walters and wife Suzie of Wickliffe and Steven Walters and wife Cheryl of Lovelaceville; six grandchildren, Lindsey Bodell, Kyle Walters, Michaela Johnston, Kenslie Walters, Colson Ivitts and Jake Walters; five great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Johnston, Brycon Walters, Kyleigh Walters, McKenlee Walters and Charlie Bodell.

 

Preceding in death were his parents; one sister, Jean Carol Campbell and one brother, Sherman Walters.

 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Wickliffe with Rev. Troy Deweese officiating.  Burial will follow at Barlow Cemetery in Barlow, Kentucky. 

 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Wickliffe.
