The Railroaders jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning of play thanks to a 3-run homerun by Zach Bishop. Fulton led 6-4 in the top of the eighth inning when Paducah's Peyton Sockwell hit a 2-run shot to tie the game 6-6.
In the bottom half of the eighth with a runner on second and two outs, Andrew Swanson singled to put the Railroaders ahead 7-6. Newly acquired Chris Patterson followed with a 2-run homer to extend Fulton's lead. It was Patterson's second homerun on the night. His first was a solo shot in the second inning.
Kyle Beach picked up the win for Fulton. Matt Meihls got the start and went seven innings, giving up 4 runs on 7 hits. Konnor Aherin pitched in middle relieve for one inning and gave up 2 runs.
Joshua Scheer took the loss for Paducah. He gave up 3 hits and 3 runs. Starter Tanner Smith threw for 5 1/3 innings allowing 10 hits, 6 earned runs, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Clay Newton in middle relief went 1 2/3 innings allowing no runs, 1 hit, 1 walk and had 3 strikeouts.
The Chiefs are back on the road tonight as they face Owensboro.
